Problem: Board manual too long

In an attempt to be thorough, some boards write board policy manuals that near a hundred pages in length. This is because they are adding other sections to store other foundational documents, such as the mission statement or core values statement. While these documents are important, they are not governing policies. Many of these are management tools that should be stored in a different place. Boards with several permanent committees may want to add the policies they have developed for their committee work. In this case, they can be placed in an appendix to reduce the clutter in the main board policy manual.
