Problem: Organization is underperforming
3.06.2025
A nonprofit can underperform in several ways. It can be operating inefficiently and wasting resources. It can be missing opportunities for growth and increased access to resources. It can be riding the downhill side of the organizational lifecycle. Board meetings for underperforming organizations ought to feel uncomfortable. Managing boards, together with the organizational leader, should be looking at ways to improve operations. Governing boards should be pointing to existing results and asking how the organization can become more effective. Navigating boards should be assessing the match between the existing services and what is needed in the relevant environment. Everybody in the organization should be working together to improve overall performance.
