After a board hires an organizational leader, they will want to provide professional and emotional support to allow him or her to do the best job possible. But some boards treat the organizational leader in an impersonal way or with disrespect. Some boards are highly political with some of the board supporting and some of the board criticizing. If a board is paying a lot of money for a competent, skilled organizational leader, they should support that person fully and work together closely with him or her. The board should ensure that the organizational leader has a professional development plan and a budget to support it. Even when disagreements happen in the board meetings, they should reach a resolution and agree to keep moving forward together.
