Board members usually have a responsibility or expectation to serve as an ambassador for the organization, speaking positively to the larger community. For too many board members, this is an afterthought. They only think about the organization when they are in board meetings or preparing for them. Unfortunately, some board members even denigrate the work the organization is doing. As they move through their ordinary routine in life, board members should speak positively about the organization and invite others to participate in events, volunteer their time, and give financially.
